Saturn + moon May30UT fairly good seeing

There was some onshore wind to blow away the unstable air over the town and I got some interesting, but variable quality, lunar shots (deep red filter) while waiting for the scope to stabilise and for Saturn to get some altitude.

The wind eventually blew up a bit much though and the scope was bouncing around a lot. I took the attached Saturn sequence anyway, since the underlying seeing was not too bad, with some fine detail when stable. Stacked about 25% of images since many were damaged by scope motion. Pushed the processing a little to bring out what looks like a white "barge" on the edge of the light coloured band.

I then pulled down the system and moved it into the wind shadow of the garage. The wind changed as I was moving the scope and the new position ended up being no better than the original, except for significantly degraded seeing courtesy of the new wind direction.

thanks for looking. Regards Ray

Very nice images Ray. A good Saturn result from just one set.

The Moon images have a lot of detail, do not seem to have suffered from the wind effects at all.

Impressive work all round Ray.

Up here Saturn was at best fair on the 30th, I have uploaded my data to PVOL.

Really like the detail in the narrow rile running along the floor of the Alpine Valley, most excellent indeed.

Regards
Trevor

thanks Ivan. For interest, the seeing introduced rolling waves of distortion across the frame and Registax6 did the best job on the lunar images. AS!2 still worked well on the planet.

thanks Trevor. thanks for reminder - will upload. I was pleased to be able to record the valles rille - it is fairly rare to have the combination of good seeing and the rille illuminated at the right angle.

thanks for the generous comment Daniel. I reckon that most of the fun in this hobby is getting the best out of the available equipment, whatever it is.
