Easter Full Moon rising over Brisbane

Hi all,

I headed up Mt Coot-tha this evening to capture the full Moon rising just after sunset. Using the camera on manual and my 70-200mm telephoto, I took a similar exposure every 3 minutes as the Moon rose through a layer of low haze, brightening as it went. These images were then stacked using Startrails to produce this image.

Happy Easter!

Cheers,
Stephen

Ha ha, thanks Deeno!

Here's another one just as the Moon was clearing the horizon.

Cheers,
Stephen

Thanks Mike! I'll have to try this again in about September, when the Moon rises over the CBD.

Cheers,
Stephen

Hi Stephen - this is cool - I really like the apparent size of the Moon vs. the homes in the foreground!

That's brilliant - almost looks like an eclipsed moon

If you don't mind me asking, how did you go about composing the photo before moonrise?

Thanks very much Dave! Re your question about composition, I had to make an educated guess about the appropriate exposure settings for the brightened Moon at the top of the frame. I'd seen the haze on the horizon prior to Moonrise, so I knew it would brighten substantially. I was probably about 0.5 stops under the optimal exposure, but I shot in RAW format so I was able to correct the exposure on all images during processing.

Cheers,
Stephen
