How clever is your watch?

Mine says today is the 1st of March!

My computer says 29 February.

So whose watch knows that it is a Leap Year?

Better still, whose watch knows its Leap Years, but knows that 2100 will not be a leap year!

ps. no birthdays today for IISers?

My watch is a good old fashioned one with mechanical movement - so it is never wrong, provided that I remember to set the date myself!

My watch has 31 days for every month, meaning it is wrong half the time! I also have to make sure I correct it in the morning so that it doesn't roll over to the new day at midday

Smugness feature

Hi Eric,

The Sydney Morning Herald is running a story about the computer crash of the
National Australia Bank-owed Health Industry Claims and Payments Service
(HICAPS) system which the article claims was a a result of the leap day.
See
http://www.smh.com.au/business/leap-...229-1u1z7.html

With the Commonwealth Bank ATM system also crashing today, the papers
are also wondering if the leap day was also a possible cause.

My wristwatch shows today as the Wed 29th Feb and I do recollect entering the
year into it many New Moons ago, so that additional tiny button pushing effort
that was made at the time appears to have finally paid dividends.

The designers obviously appreciated the perverse sense of tranquility, peace
and smugness the wearer might enjoy whilst they looked on as the rest of the
world crashes down about them. The type of watch that Nero might have worn

My old Casio G-Shock is displaying Feb 29th . I am surprised it still works at all after the rough treatment it has been through. Love the G-Shock's.

I wanted to fast forward to 2100 but it stopped at Dec 21st, 2012.

My watch not only knows it is a leap year, it also tells me the times of sunset and sunrise, the current moon phase, and when is the best time to go fishing. Casio Pro Trek. Love it.

I have to tell it when we change to day light saving, though...

Hey thanks for that- I've just set my watch to 1/3.
My computer still thinks it's 29th. I didn't even know that it was a leap year- you saved my butt, I have my cousin's b'day in a few days and this always trips me up!

Ah-oh, I'm now feeling swamped thinking of all the things I have to go and change- 4 yrs ago I barely touched a computer, now I depend on it for so much, incl. my mobile apps.

Sounds like a very smart watch. Being from Tassie, it might think you need some help.

I couldn't help having a dig Miaplacidus. We QLD'ers cop our fair share.

What is day light saving?

No wuz.

I think it's getting up early one morning in Spring so you can enjoy a lie in six months later. Perhaps also an exercise in mass psychology, to remind everybody to change the batteries in their clocks and smoke detectors. Personally, it is excuse number 54 in the never-ending series entitled "Why I am late to work today..."
