ARW(Sony raw) to tiff etc converter

I need to convert my arw image files into something other than jpeg for deep sky stacker. Any simple and low cost suggestions? I have PS 7 which does not read arw files

Did your camera not come with a software disc? It will, for certain, have some kind of image viewing and editing software on there, that will allow you to output to any number of different formats.

In almost every instance, the software which comes with your camera does /the/ best job at converting from its native RAW format to any other format. You only have to look at the botched skin tones that come out of ACR when converting Canon RAWs to see what I mean.

Simple Google search came up with these.

Phil,

Are you saying that the software /only/ converts to JPG? That's a bit poor.

Surely, there must be a drop down file-type selection list when saving the RAW as something else?

I have never like Sony's attitude on some products, ever since servicing television they have always implemented product with some marketing hiccup that requires extra purchases.

They more than likely sell a software that will provide a higher level of conversion.

While Malcolm has his opinion, I have used my Sony(s) quote a bit, and recalled DSS working with the RAW files OK. I did end up buying Images Plus however, and this recognized my a700 files, as well as my NEX 5 files.
You sure DSS won't play with the RAW files?

My most concern is the propriety aspect of Sony in their electronic consumer products of the past, After seeing this thread I was taken aback they would not allow their software to convert to TIFF directly. Sony in my opinion was a really top quality product but had it idiosyncrasies while I was servicing their gear.

Maybe you can rename the file

Deepsky stacker sees the arw files but when you try to load them nothing loads. However when looking at Sony light box I find it will save , one at a time, arw to tiff ,but it's clumsy to use that way.

I use DSS to load and stack Sony Raw no problem. I know what you are saying about SONY and it's proprietary answers but it's a heck of a lot better than Apple's circus of control.

Brent,

Apple doesn't make cameras.

They also make fantastic software.

I'm not sure what the point of your comment was?

Phil, there's no batch processing options?
