Ostracism - an English word of Greek origin...
In Athens, the original democracy, they used to vote for the person they hated the most and write their name on a piece of pottery (ostraca in Greek). The "winner" was exiled for a decade or so. Hence, the English word 'ostracism'. Usually the most popular and famous was also the most hated and voted for.
Comet Lovejoy is popular and famous.... and now being ostracised!!
P.s. I can't get enough of Comet Lovejoy - comets like this are special events!!
