Humayun and I went to our favourite beach the other night in an attempt to capture comet Lovejoy, as seems the fashion. As we sat in our cave, evading the downpour outside, we almost resigned ourselves to the mission being indeed impossible.
What we didn't bank on was the truly spectacular light during sunrise only an hour later.
Here is Humayun standing on the beach in front of me, leaning over his new Mamiya medium format camera while the storm raged over the ocean. Not bad light, eh?

Thanks Troy & Carl YEs, the comet was there for us, but briefly. In fact, I don't think that it was ever clear of thin cloud - but the camera seems to have seen through it to give me a rather dull comet. Better than nothing I guess. Can't wait to see Humayun's from last night (XMas eve) - he went back again
I know why he was looking down the whole time - he was looking into that gorgeous viewfinder on the Mamiya. The viewfinder image is nothing like a DSLR gives you. It's massive, bright and almost 3-dimensional. Beautiful, and I must get one one day.

And, at f/3.5 through the viewfinder, the depth of field is so thin, that it's almost unbelievable; things look like 3D models.
Will get some nice black and white film, as well as some Astia, and we'll do some portraits.

Find that young lady you took the piccies of before, and do a few more shots with her
You mean Imogen, Carl?
We're soon going to have an opportunity to shoot the daughter of a friend of mine who does some part-time modelling - in addition to racing high-powered drag cars. Should be fantastic! Can't wait. Should be a meaningful exercise in indoor lighting and flash placement/management.
