The Orion Nebula - now with more fine structure

Orions Sword final Natural LRGB - now with more detail and fine structure

This is a Synthetic LRGB Colour blend of Ha OIII and RGB.

Full Frame at 50%

Central Crop at 80%

Trapezium area 100% full res

Zoomed in on the trap

Once again....Happy for now

Mike

Actually quite good Mike...looks like you've tried to push for an RGB look?that is quite an achievement in Itself with only Ha/0III to work with...not much exposure time either.

Ok,how ya do It? hehe

That looks hot. It emphasizes nicely all the darker blue/grey wisps. Noice.

He he, thought the colours would cause a couple'a old 70's mission brown lovers to real

I was going for a different somewhat more vibrant colourful look, already did the natural RGB and L(HaOIII)RGB so this was meant to be a bit different

The AG12 is a wonderful piece of machinery and if I ever do an uber long run with her on something...LOOK OUT

How did I do it..?...after DDP, log stretching and low pass filtering of each combined frame t'was just a simple (ish) Ha OIII OIII combine in Astroart5 (using special weightings) then some tweeking in PS..ok a fair bit of tweaking, layers, blends etc, easy ...few other things but they are lost in the wilderness of my cooking cupboard now...

Really brings out the detail Mike, and I like to see detail. Thanks for the view.

Wonderfully sharp.

It'd be worth trying to make the O111 more teal coloured by assigning O111 one layer to blue and one layer of O111 to green.

That would turn the bluish grey to more teal and perhaps a broader appeal.

Greg.

Excellent rendition of a difficult, rarely imaged object Mike. I might be wrong, but I suspect there are slightly more than 2 colors in the image but only a few. Nice to see you are adding stars in PS, it's easier than taking the blighters out

Thanks Fred (for the slight sarcasm too ) The extra colour variations come from using curves and colour hue adjustments in PS

Oh Mike,

Sell me your AG12 so you can buy the AG16!

don't let the WAP see those colors. They will throw you in FLI jail. :-P

Funny you should say that John, I had seriously considered this, it is abundantly clear that aperture and speed are a blessing, so even more aperture and the same speed is indeed attractive the main thing is that I am concerned that the NJP, as fantastabulous a mount that it is, may be pushed just a bit too far with the 16" and all the rest of the paraphernalia on it not mention that we are essentially broke at the moment Also the Orion Optics Wynn is optimised for the 12"...although I am sure in practical terms this difference in spot sizes would be invisible, except perhaps under perfect seeing - which I will never get. You better wait for the OS 8" F3 first

Glad you like the image..WAP ... something police?

Can I come over and search that cooking cupboard of yours so I can cheat and advance myself many many years of agonising processing learning

Lovelly as always Mike and a fantastic guide for us "juniors" in AP!

Mike,

I haven't seen any 16 inch ASA or OO AG images that are better than your 12 inch. I don't see any gain by going to 16 inch in that format.

Long focal length yeah but for widefield shots - its a bit like the 6 inch APO hitting the sweet spot.

16 inch is just more opportunity for flex issues and as you say needing a beefier mount. Hmmm a PMX probably would handle it. Its supposed to be able to handle a 14 inch Cassegrain.

Greg.

I agree with you Greg, I would only really contemplate up-sizing if I was in an observatory again....oh and actually had some (any) money to pay for that dream

The key with aperture is the speed of acquisition, coupled with the F3.8 it would be even more of a killer for getting data down.

Kept tinkering on this data and have decided that with the limited data gathered a natural LRGB look is my favourite in the end so until (if) I gather more data this is my final settlement (honest)

It's basically the RGB and then using the Ha and OIII to lift and better reveal the outer gas and dust

Orions Sword

Other versions, crops and comparisons can be seen here

All good fun

Mike
