Shot this at 15 FPS..my 1st semi-ok AVI at this frame rate. Seeing was pretty good 7/10. 1/25th sec with 90% gain to try to solve the 'onion ring' problem.
Fair bit of grain in this shot. The colour sUx a bit too.
6" refractor & Toucam.
I have more AVIs to process yet so I'll prolly keep adding more pics to this thread.
THanks Mike, I thought that if the atmosphere was a bit dodgy even though it was focused that the image moved making it that way. Not being into this part of astronomy I don't appreciate the efforts made to get the images gathered by Asimov, yourself and RR at times. Too many good images.
I did play with the settings quite a bit with the gain I had. The focus was smack on...I can only liken the out of focus 'effect' to a slight blue overlay for want of a better term. It seems to become more apparent at 15 FPS too..Next time I'll slowly back the gain off until the onion ring effect takes place in the AVI, then I'll kind of know where I'm situated.
Sounds like I should be aiming for roughly 65-75% gain at a guess....it depends on the night though (seeing/trans. etc etc!) It's going to take a long time before it becomes an automatic thing to be able to get the settings spot on for each given night.
with mars it seemed too easy and with jupiter i assume it will be the same, but these "saturn settings" are a real art!!!
can't wait to compare some later.
by the way, i have drilled some holes in a square piece of polystyrene and then rubber banded that to my left focusser. when i am close to focus, i put a chop stick in the holes and fine focus from there.
no pretty but it is working..... i think..... the jet stream is not helping!!!
I'm adding another one I just finished. I don't know where this one came from! I had a quick review of the AVI & thought it was worthy of deletion but decided to run it thru at the last minute. Possibly my 2nd. best to date. Shame about the slight grain in the centre of the globe. I'm going to "hand stack" that AVI 'cos I know from experience I can improve on this by 50% at least! (auto stacking in registax sUx)
That reprocess looks heaps better Mike! TY for that.
Dave, were having chinese tonight actually....pop on over with those chop-stix mate!!
TY ving.
Setting for this image: Same as the 1st one above except @ 10 FPS..
i catch up when you sleep and you get ahead when i sleep!"
Yeah I know LOL!
This is no lie when I tell you I have both my hands strapped up. I have bad RSI from hand stacking several 5000 framers just before Xmas!!! Now I sit there with a pencil hitting keys that way, can't use my fingers hardly at all but well enough to hold a pencil. I can still use a mouse just.
Oh I love someone that throws down the gauntlet!! I dunno about 50% better but I'll squeeze out what I can though!
Don't worry Dave, you'll get your perfect night on Saturn SOON mate! BTW you have stakes in my images....if It was'nt for your/my laptop none of this would be possible!
Here you are Davo.....You win! it's not 50% better! I ended up stitching 5 AVIs together & wacking it thru registax. I started to hand stack but my pencil wore down so I auto stacked. (Cut quite a few bad frames out though)
I've found bink & smack..DERRR! won't stitch big AVIs...had to use virtual dub instead.
I think this one is better to a degree: more detail/better CD/less noise. On the down side the colours leave a bit to be desired/slightly burnt out centre.
