Thanks, John, that works fine. My Sirius bookmark had .com without the .au on the end - presumably the URL has changed recently.

Discussed here initially: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=81733

Colin seemed to have a first hand account though a conversation with the sale staff.

Hi Guys, just to keep things clear here:
I work for Ron at Sirius Optics every second Saturday until 1pm. Peter Marples works the alternate Saturday when I'm not there.
We are located in Underwood. The original post concerned the sale of Sirius Optics.

However, there is also a reference in this post now to Star Optics which are located on the Gold Coast and is owned by Lex. Star Optics is about a 50 minute drive south of Sirius Optics. Please don't confuse the two businesses.

I have been a long term customer of both businesses, as well as Bintel in Sydney, over a long time.

Yes, Star Optics is closing its doors. As explained to me the other day when I visited the shop, Lex is closing it in favour of other business activities that occupy his time.

I can say that I have always valued the service and advice (and patience when I cant make up my mind...yeah, that's me, the big kid in the toy shop) that all 3 businesses have offered to me over the years, and it will be a shame to see Star Optics close. I'm sure lots of amateurs will miss the goodies that Lex brought to Astrofest each year.

Its unfortunate for us amateurs that Sirius is now the sole remaining shop front we have in the SE. With the high dollar its more important than ever to support local. Would be very sad that if we wanted to buy something in a couple of years that we would all have to buy from Sydney. Ron sold me my first telescope a few years ago and ive been back several times since.

There is a new Astro store in Brisbane.

I have no affiliation with it but I hope he can make a go of it.

Ken.

Many thanks to all for their concerns but Sirius Optics is not closing and is still for sale. There are 3 people currently negotiating but nothing definite. I have applied to Meade for a dealership to replace Star Optics (and hopefully to get some money out of Mossie). It is early days yet.

There is a new outlet in Brisbane but he cannot make up his mind if he wants to be an astronomy store or a Cafe. I will not comment further on him.

It is my intention to continue to 'grow' Sirius Optics as we have now taken on a dealership with Starlight Xpress and have also applied for the dealership for Hi Tech (UK) previously held by Star Optics.

Many thanks again for all of your support.

Ron
