Well in some respects it is magic in so far even after 100 odd years super conductivity still seems not to be fully understood or so "they" say.

Being reminded about this makes me realise that my car is having electrical problems (I thought I had fuel issues) because it must be running too hot (the hotter the more resistence in the leads hence they will short out) so to fix the electrical miss I will flush the radiator etc (as well as new plugs and leads) ... something my mechanic failed to suggest...he wanted to take the head off and check valves etc.

The problem has been sending me batty (more than ususal) the fluctuation in heat levels would explain the coming and going of the miss ..the inconsitence nature was suggesting to me fuel problems.

Thanks Bert for helping me fix my car.

A bit of advice needed here, Alex.
If running too hot, check:
i) leaks in the rubber cooling pipes and/or the radiator;
ii) non-functioning thermostat (replace it anyway);
iii) non-functioning water pump, or leaks in the gaskets surrounding it;
iv) damaged head gasket (look for oily residue in the radiator water) .. replace it (expensive).
Its almost guaranteed to be one of the four options above.

Fluctuating 'misses' symptom will sometimes be because of overheating of the block .. not likely to be anything related to overheating plug leads … leads don't short-out because they get too hot … sometimes (in modern computer-controlled cars), the engine top dead centre sensor can malfunction because of dirt (locate, remove, clean, replace). Otherwise check spark and leads for intermittent contacts .. (also, check the plugs for grunge).
(IMHO)
Cheers

It's nothing special.

It's explained by BCS theory, an application of Quantum field theory.

Regards

What's becoming interesting in this field is that they now finding ways of making graphene based materials behave line superconductors … but at room temperature ! (Can't remember where I read it .. ).

I'd love to see something like this 'quantum locking' working at room temperatures .. now that would be neat !

Cheers

Thanks Craig.. Its not the head thank goodness... and not the water pump...thermostate or fan remains...

But it definitly shorts when hot... super conductivity at the other end was my point.

I have made it to Sydney so I will find a mechanic let him fix it while I go to the movies..

For biological systems to use quantum effects the localised temperature must be very low ie in the order of super conducting temperatures. If biological systems can catalyse reactions that only happen at very high temperatures what is to stop them from somehow lowering the local temperature by absorbing vibrational energy somehow. It would just be some sort of molecular heat pump.

Yes but you will need very warm boots to ride it.
