Waiting to strike!

Look what I found waiting for me at my front door when I took the bins out tonight!

This Huntsman spider was about a foot and a half up the wall, so I lay down on the concrete under it and pushed the lens right up under it's nose for a personal greeting. Beautiful creature! Not the biggest specimen around here, only about 8cm across this one.

Fantastic shots, nasty looking little critters, that's pretty up close and personal, well done.

Optometrists would be king if spiders ever needed glasses.
Looks like 6 sets of eyes peering out of black portholes.
GREAT close up ... looking straight into the 4th eye from the left .. second row

Thanks Dave, Jeff, Patrick and Ric. I don't mind getting that close really. I recently braved picking one up with my bare hands off our ceiling the other night only to have it leap off said ceiling and jump onto my face. I calmly walked outside to try to find it without hurting it and brush it off into the garden. Not so long ago I would have freaked, but I have come to understand, appreciate and love these critters so much now, that I know they are not going to bite. In fact, I think perhaps they can sense it in me. Who knows?

Baz.

Excellent shots Baz!

Can I ask what macro lens and lighting you're using?

Cheers,
Stepehn

Sure mate. It's the Canon 100mm f/2.8L IS USM macro with the MT-24EX twin lites and a home made light modifier.
