Jup Oct 17th Io transit through the GRS

Hi All,

Imaged Jupiter this morning, again in mediocre conditions, however I do have good coverage of the transit of both Io and its shadow through the GRS. My 807nm IR data came up quite well but the RGB's look sick.
Tonight is looking promising, this will be the 4th in a row and maybe this will bring better seeing.

I like that transit accross the GRS Trevor, I expect that type of event would be quite rare and sought after as an image.

Io is so bright as it moves across Jupiters disc, in the first image the moon above Jupiter shows just how big these moons actually are.

Thats excellent Trevor, clicking on all your images fast creates a movie like effect!

Imaged it myself but the seeing was utter crap. I have the data on the drive but cannot bring myself to go over it again. I imaged from the time Io started its transit and Ganymede existed from transit until sometime around 2am. Shame it did not happen this time. 2 or 3rd time Io has done this transit with the GRS visible that I know of in this apparition. I hope we get another chance of two.

Seeing was so bad here that I just went straight back to bed. I couldn't even get any detail at thr eyepiece

Thanks very much for the kind words Daniel, it has been a most frustrating Jupiter season thus far. Even thought this particular data is pretty ordinary I was still very pleased to capture this event.

Thanks Ric, this is the first ime I have personally observed this event, although Damian Peach produced a stunning record of a similar event not that long ago.

Thanks John, I would have created an animation but I am sort of running on empty and needed a couple of hours sleep prior to doing it all again the next night.

Thanks Paul, it certainly has been very frustrating and it takes just as long to process mediocre data as it does for good data, so just as much effort goes in. I am now processing my data from Oct 18th, my 4th straight night and am looking forward to the respite the imminent arrival of a low pressure trough will provide for the next couple of days. Looking forward to your arrival next week, hope that brings better conditions.
