Hi Derek - I will run through my capturing technique and processing run (I hope I do not miss anything)
Equipment
- Lunt60 / Ha / Pressure Tuned / Feather focus (I do 99% of my stuff single stacked)
- I have a very basic EQ mount that tracks via a motor (not sure what it is)

- I use a DMK31 and use the IC capture AS 2.0 software
- 2.5 Powermate
Capture Settings
- This changes a touch but most exposures are at 1/19 sec, Gain 260 (do not use), Gamma ranges from 50-110ish (what ever looks good on the screen)
- I use the pressure tuner to ensure I see great contrast (usually I use filaments as a guide)
- I spend time to focus while at 125% - but I always reduce this to 75% after I achieve the best focus so I can see the entire scene on the screen
- I usually take about 1000 frames - this takes about 90 seconds
Processing
- I use Registax5 and tend to do very quick processing (I have spent hours over the years processing and reprocessing and there is little difference between my fast method and the drawn out versions
- The first image I process from a session is the pretty area with the most frames
- I pick the best frame from the slider at the bottom after opening a file (I usually pick one in the first 100 frames)
- Alignment method - I usually use default at box size 128 with 95% quality and then press align (I do some multi alignment points but this can leave a line through the final stack!?)
- My next step is to stack at least 50 frames so sometimes I must reduce the quality (you do not have to do this in drops of 5% - just type in the number that gives 50ish frames). Getting 75-100 frames is better if the data allows this - then press Limit
- I then press Stack and this will take me to the Wavelet settings - I drag the first slider to about 20 and the second one to 10 - press do all and review (I tend to be softer than heavy with these)
- I do slight contrast tweaks and Gamma - not too much - press do all
- Final and draw the box and save - I reduce the image to 75% - this hides alot!!!!
