Pickering's Triangle

Hello everyone.
Of course, the nice thing about narrowband bi-colour imaging is that you can save a third of the time in data acquisition.

So this image is just that - using an Astrodon 3nm OIII filter and 5nm Ha filter. It is also an excellent example of being able to make maximum use of synthetic luminance for great effect. Literally, the Ha and OIII frames are almost completely different, as you would expect.

http://www.martinpughastrophotograph...ngle_50Pct.jpg

So this is 3.5hrs Ha and 5hrs OIII. CDK 17"/Apogee U16M.

The full sized version is here, but its a large file (14Mb).

Thanks for looking

Hmmm?..not much detail there Martin

Your images were detailed before with the 12.5" RC now you have just upped to the next level of resolution huh?

We were in Canberra on the long weekend and decided to look at a 22acre property that was for sale nopt far from your old haunt outside Yass. The building envelope (with old transported Deakin weatherboard) t'was a large flattened area on a sizable hill with 360deg views - It was basically window shopping torture for me...ah well maybe one day

Stunning images. I prefer the smaller version because of the slight noise in the larger image. Visually I found this very 3D and enjoyed seeing the faint and fine whispy detail. Sensational looking image Martin. Overall both images are stunners. Fantastic work.

Thanks Mike/Paul

I guess it is a little bit noisy in the background there, and I blame that 3nm OIII filter!

Mike - you dont have to own 23 acres! I am really looking forward to getting back to Yass. Got a whole new observatory to build, room enough for 3 scopes, but only 2 going in. My existing observatory is going to house the Solarmax DS90. I often thought my imaging with the RC suffered because it was really close to the house, so the new observatory is going to be right on the back fence, at least 150 feet away.

cheers
Martin

Don't get me wrong Martin, the noise is not overly distracting.

My obs is 12 meters from my house and just far enough away for heat plumes etc.

I like this one Martin more than the earlier Veil image. More subtle colours. Gee you are really exploiting the CDK17's potential there.

Great framing.

I agree. You only really need a small acreage. 22 acres is good on paper but 5 acres is its own little world. My dark site is 25 acres and 99% of the time I only use about 5 acres.

Pickering's Triangle like I have never seen before, I love this HiRes filamentary work as I can't stop looking with so much to see.

Magnificent Martin. Detail just jumps out of the image and smacks me in the face. The CDK is certainly a very nice instrument giving quite a narrow field but great resolution and detail.

the veil has always been one of my favourite objects (visually and photographically) and was the main object i pursued with new scope and modded dslr in the last few months i lived in scotland. with that as my benchmark, i can only say that your image has a *ridiculous* amount of detail in it. amazing!

This is beautiful Martin!
I love these SN remnants.
The bi colour technique is definitely the way to go to reduce time but to very good effect in NB definition.

Lovely details to the tendrils and shock waves....

I like that it is not overly colour saturated and enhanced, but still giving a very natural appearance with a very good depth... unlike some images that are way over the top!

Overall a lovely capture and thanks for sharing this area with us.

All the best
Rich
