LDN 673 - dark tendrils in Aquila

A dark nebula in Aquila (from Lynds Catalog of Dark Nebulae).

Taken at Ten Chain Hill last night through smoky skies, which seems appropriate.

Gear was Tak FSQ-106ED, AP900 mount, SX H-18 mono camera. LRGB 142,15,15,15 mins. I would have liked more data, but that was all I managed before it completely disappeared into the smoky soup.

Nice one Rick. Turned out very nice considering the short colour subs.

Lots of nice dark nebs out there that we don't seem to image very much.

Thanks, Doug. I guess if most of the colour is in the stars then you don't need as much RGB time.

Looks like something you'd expect to see in the Sag-Scorpio area.

Great shot. Looks like the patterns worms make under tree bark. Almost like a maze pattern. Very cool.

I haven't been imaging very long and I've mostly been doing the "common" objects. I thought it was time to chase something a bit different and also to start capturing more data. At least I managed half of that

Thanks, Mike. It was you that encouraged me to go for a mono CCD. It definitely makes a big difference if you can get the extra subs!

Thanks, Ross. I was hoping to capture that smoky look that I've seen in other images of dark nebulae, including that lovely Dark Doodad of yours.

That dust has a nice 3D look to it near the bottom of the dust lane. Looks pretty nice.
