A few years ago this would be considered very difficult indeed and you are getting some of that dark dust cooled CCD's get, M78 dust lane is well seen. Excellent result.

John.

Thanks John. I was surprised it picked any of the brown stuff at all because the subs were only 3min but I reckon at the meridian it will pick up a lot more and I intend eventually to do a Ha Blend.

Nice one Marc, so thats what was going on in that tent of yours. A couple of times we thought you had died in there. We were going to send JohnG on a mission to check you out and you just seem to pop up.
I bet you had more sleep than me. It ended up perfect every night.
Nice to meet you, finally. Next year we should have a night off and give the red a nudge.

Love the detail in all the right bits, looks like you at least had everything working well.

Great stuff.

Thanks a lot Doug. No I wasn't sleeping in the tent, too cold. I went back to the dorms. I was in and out to change target and check cable drag now and then. You saw my rig. It looked like a bag of noodles wrapped in rugs. Was good to have a yak with John and yourself. Always ready to give some support.

Excellent image Marc. Puts everything into perspective. Would be even more sensational if you could also squeeze in the witch head neb. Keep them coming.

Thanks Jase. Yes I plan to do a mosaic of this eventually with a 200mm to get a bit more image scale and map maybe 6 or 8 frames to include the whole constellation. That'll be my summer project.

Wow that's a wide field, such a challenge with the brightness of 42 compared to the loop.

Marc,
That is a beautiful widefield shot. It's really nice to see this large area with that sort of detail.

Marc,
It constantly amazes what fantastic images people deliver at this site. It's a ripper and as you say bring on the image in a couple of months. More exposure and get those amazing dust lanes. Well done.

Thanks Clive. I did fairly short exposures keeping in mind M42 would blow right out but still had to do some masking on the core to bring it down a tad while keeping true to the relative luminosity and colors as much as possible.

Thanks Lucas. Yes it's pretty cool to take the whole field in one go and see all the familiar objects in realtion to each other. Even M78 turned out in the lower left corner.

Hi Marc,

What a great photo.

Amazing field of view and so much detail from just OSC.

The 100mm lens is performing so well.

I take it you had a great time at Albury?

Thanks.

Ross.

Thanks mate. 100mm is nice but I now think I need both something in the 80/90mm range and also 135mm. Yeah I had a ball at BSG. Too short though. You should come next year. Nice easy drive down.
