A Member joins the SETI team

Yes it's true. My cat benny has just joined the SETI team. He has been searching the skies for any sign on life.... This was him this morning closing in on a signal..

The truth is the poor little boy has been very sick. He has lymphoma and has had nodes removed and part of his liver. He then got the cat flu and developed an infection in his wound. He has to wear this collar to stop him getting to his wound. He is slowly getting better day by day. I am a cat lover and he is my little mate. He's like a Dog and follows me around and often sits with me in the dark when I am at the scope..

you can get real attached to these damm critters LOL..

I'll keep you informed if he finds any signals..

Was it a signal or the food bowl Martin

Get well soon Benny

He sounds like a tough fur kid after all he has been through.

He seems to be doing a little better today. It seems to be helping that I have given him a job to do... It's really funny when a bird flys over as it really looks like he is tracking the sky... I don't think he see's the funny side at all.. But yep he is a tough little bloke for a 12yo and he still has some fight to go. When he is a little stronger he will have to start Chemotherapy. It does not effect cats like Humans and they have a great result from treatment. He has about an 85% chance of beating the problem he has... Well worth the effort as he is a real nice boy..

I have this image of Benny and 5 of his mates same collars, watching the same bird fly over, and they all look like the Very Large Array in New Mexico

Seriously though Mardy, I hope Benny gets well. I don't like seeing sick animals (I'd be a hopeless vet), but he seems to be coping. I'm not a fan of young cats, but I have a soft spot for the older ones. He looks like a toughy, he'll make it though by the sound of it.

Hey Mardy,
Hope Benny gets well soon! Cat lover myself!
We have had a few cats (over the many years) and at times they have had to have those collars too. But it never crossed my mind that I could have lined those buckets with some al-foil and stick a few wires to the cat and possibley receive some LGM signals whilst the cat was scanning the sky for birds!
Cheers and all the best for Benny.

Good Luck Benny, keep the purring coming. They are just small people in fur coats.

We're cat lovers, had Oriental Siamese (7) for years now but we're down to just one 10 year old Ebony (Black) male called Koko. Just recently lost my workshop\garden\astro helper girl Abbie to cardiomyopathy. Pulled her through it once before about 5 months ago but the second time round was too cruel so we took care of her.
We've lost three to various illnesses over the last few years but our first boy made it to 17 and Koko is 10 and looking good.

Take care of your SETI cat Martin, hope it all goes well.

Hi Martin,

I'm a cat lover too and have two Burmese (lilac & choc).
One of my cats died of old age last year and she too was my astro cat, often sitting right by me in those dark, lonely nights. I miss it so much, feels so lonely out there now.

I'm sure Benny will find that signal, get famous, and appear on the cover of "Time" magazine.

Time magazine??!!!.....more like Nature, A&A, MNRAS, AJ and another 12 or so peer reviewed journals, plus a Nobel Prize and a lifetime's supply of free cat food and kibble

Oh, and the obligatory TV appearances, meeting the President at the White House, addressing the UN, commemorative statues, advertising endorsements etc etc etc.
