Gee it make me wonder why all you purists even use digital at all , shouldn't you be using slide film ?
The prostitute line is right on
So nothing created on a computer takes any skill at all ?
Some of you people take your selves so seriously , still it gives the rest of us a laugh.
Pardon me while I prepare my collodian plates for a nights imaging with the speculum mirror Gregorian .

Ditto Mr Ply, totally agree.

"Cant polish a Turd"?. Bull. Ive taken some shockers that polished up nicely in PS .

A nice pic is a nice pic.

How much its been fiddled with, how and the importance of that, is a valid subjective technical value applied by the viewer for the viewer, not a universal measure of worth.

Fred,

A turd is a turd. You can't dress it up.

A nice pic, is a nice pic.

So the automated mounts, with low Periodic errors with AP/TAK/RCOS optics in an obsrvatories, where you push a few buttons and the scope unparks and goes to a target, takes a photo is cheating?

Or say hmm using Hubble telescope is cheating.

A reaction to what I said H. Taking a photo with lenses that is sharp and well exposed using aperture control and the correct shutter speed to obtain the image that has the correct depth of field and then doing some work to make it look a little more contrasty is fine. It is taking images and applying a Ansel Adams contrast look over the top is what I declared as cheating. Clearly not allowed to have an opinion as being cheating despite the fact I have spent the last 38 years taking photography, but those that have been at it all of five seconds get offended when I suggest something is cheating. More arm chairs I reckon. Think what you like guys. No need for any real skill, just use a filter to make your award winning images.

Sorry guys my post was not ment to offend anyone nor was it an attack. My appolgies if that is the case.
Let me put it another way, how progress is used is what defines it as a vice or virtue. Know take this example, I have not training in photography, light or mettering etc etc. But I to take lots of photographs to save those memories of good occaions. Now say I took some snaps at my daugthers first birthday and then realised because I did not set the camera correctly they came out all out of focus. In that situation is it wrong of me to try and use what ever tool is at my disposal to salvage those images.

Remember guys calling an image a turd is not considering the subject of that photograph. If my subject is a memory of my kid then i will move heaven and earth to try and salvge it if i can. Could you say you would do any less?

Similarly if i spent half the night trying to capture something, I would want to try and make the best of it. It does not matter to my if my best appears to somoene else as a polished turd. As long as I know that was the best I could do given the mistakes i made.

Tools dont make images, people do. And as technology improves sure tools will improve that is a given. We cant wind back the clock on that. And me personally i try to keep track of all the tools i use, and how i use them. Because sure I am not an expert so i need to be able to explain to those that are how i got to where i am with a given image. So i can get there opinon and constructive cricisim.

We cant all be photography experts, what kind of world would that be. All being the same. Indeed we apreciate this hobby because the beauty of the universe is in its infinite diversity in infinite combinations.

not quite have you watched the Mythbusters program where they proved you can really polish a turd

Personally I think they need a version of PS available for the non-professional, at over $1k for the full version I can't see myself buying it.
