Full Moon with some detail

Hi All, Full moons are always challenging due to their bland look. Managed to get the cobwebs out of my old webcam which i haven't used in a while. The following image is a mosaic of 3 images original capture of 800 x 600. I de-saturated this image to experiment with so that I can later try filters.

No Barlow or Powermate I can't get the appropriate resolution I would like but managed to get some depth of field. The moon looks more like a sphere than a flat disc. I think it something to do with the background.

I am trying to do another avi but having problem getting the file to my laptop as each one is nearly 6GB in size and having trouble with my WiFi crashing halfway through transfer. The next image is a result of one shot colour at 1280 x 960 resolution.

Its nice - I like it for the detail that you don't normally get with a full moon - and I especially like the mountains seen in relief on the left edge.

However, in bringing out the detail, there are some features that have been left with a white 'rind' around them - like the small craters near the centre and the whole right edge of the disc.

If you can keep the detail, but tone down the 'rind' a little - it will be a cracker

I am aware of the exposure level although the webcam is very light sensitive and had already set it to the lowest possible level. I am going to need to put more moon filters in but not happy about the colour of the webcam which is the reason it is only a de-saturated image. The colour is a bit brown due to either poor CCD element or damaged CCD. Which I am not sure of.

Yes Malcolm the Moon does indeed appear 3D'ish so depth of field is good.

Once you can control the exposure, it will certainly help avoid any over exposed areas.

Very nice image though and your mosaic appears seamless.

Thanks Darrin, I use iMerge which is brilliant for seamless stitch but is only uses 8 bit BMP. I want to try and use Blend feature in GIMP but not totally clear about it as yet.

I use used Registax on this one. Seems better now especially the Drizzling and Re-sampling function. I still find AVIStack easier and better for non drizzling stacking.
