I wonder how many times some guy in a lab said "oooops!"
then shortly after, no doubt as he's waving the smoke away, said "hmmmm.... thats interesting"

Bring it back I say, who cares how the dogs and cats react to crackers. The animals react the same way to thunder and lightning which is a normal, everyday happening. To those who worry about children being harmed on cracker night, you should try being a good parent and stay in control of your kiddies, after all, it is your responsibility. If you think it is too dangerous, don't attend these events. Get a life. Stop asking the world to legislate for every eventuality. And yes, I have children and grandchildren. Stuff the greens.
Maybe a google search on Fireworks injuries my change a few minds. As the old saying goes "Its all great fun until Johnnie gets his hand blown off, face torn apart, looses his eyes...."
I know this is an old thread but, I have to say there are a few wowser comments here. Guy Fawkes night was great fun. We would as children build a huge bon fire with a Guy sitting on top and a couple of sky rockets hanging out of his hat. During the evening the fire was lit and our parents would set up a sky rocket display and do all the lighting. It was only later on when we were older that we were allowed to light the crackers. Our parents were always sober and no one ever did anything stupid. It was a wonderful time for us and I have many fond memories of this time.
Guy Fawkes night was legislated out of existence because of the less than 1% stupidity. The threat to animals really is minimal and animals should be locked inside during such events so as to minimise their fear. Cats should not be left outside at night anyway as this is when they kill the most.
Lots here seemed ok with the use of fire crackers but some want to live in a nanny State. I for one am sick of being Nannied.
It's about time people started taking personal responsibility for themselves, their children, their pets and their communities instead of looking to someone else to take that all for them...so they can go and stuff around with no consequence and treat everything else as a chore.
We never had any trouble with Guy Fawkes night as kids. It was just idiots and irresponsible parents who didn't properly supervise their kids and were more interested in getting drunk or watching the TV to worry about them, that stuffed everything up.
Good on you takdriver, well said. I for one am sick and tired of people not taking responsibility for the actions of their children. Sorry to say it but said people are "tossers", It's never their fault , blah blah blah. Hey, if it wasn't for gunpowder there would be no iss, shuttle, etc. Think about it , you losers!!!!!!
