Four planets in the Brisbane River! (7th May)

Hi all,

I took advantage of the clear pre-dawn skies again this morning, and captured the conjunction. This time I drove to Graceville, and captured the four plants reflected in the calm Brisbane River. When I first downloaded the image I was a bit diasappointed, but with a bit of adjusting I think it's come out OK. I think I'm still getting used to exposure with the 50D - I need to look more at the histogram rather the the image on the preview screen, especially when it's dark. Otherwise I tend to be underexposing. Anyway, here's the image. Hope you like it!

Cheers,
Stephen

Great shot Stephen,

Yes I happened to wake at 0400 and walked out to a crystal sky!
(Last night at 2000 it was anything but!)

The conjunction was so clear and atmosphere so stable that Venus looked like an aircraft on approach, Jupiter and moons the same.

Did you see the meteors? Glimpsed about 20.

Of late it seems so strange to look up at night and see STARS instead of clouds!!!!

Cheers

David

Great shot! I really like this image, so nice and tranquil with the reflections in the river.

Thanks very much for all the comments David, Mike, Dennis, Liz, Troy, Rolf and Tony! It is a nice spot for these dawn conjunctions, and I got lucky with the reflections because there was a bit of wind on the water when I first arrived at about 4:50am, but a few minutes later the wind disappeared. This location is right in the middle of suburbia, but there is a golf course across the river so it's possible to get a shot without any lights in the frame.

I missed the meteors David, because I was too focussed on recording the conjunction. Would have been nice to catch a meteor streaking across the frame though!

Cheers,
Stephen
