well sucking the juices out!,These small green fly's are common in S.E QLD,and are a lovely green. But I was lucky to get this capture of one having a meal.
I could not see it had lunch at first, but after reviewing a few images on the display,I noticed something-I really had zoom the image up to see what was going on.These green fly's are approx 10 mm long.so to then be able to have a view of what its eating,I thought was quite unreal-the macro lens is certainly not the best quality-but still manages an image like this.
Thanks Barry,Its good to get some feed back from a professional photographer such as yourself.I have not had time to get the entomological books to check correct name. The fly my be a mosquito,I'll see If I can post a cropped image of head area-Cheers Chris.
Yes, it's a "doli" (Dolichopodidae), common name "long legged fly". They are insectivores, quite common, and quite hard to capture with flash as they preflash with ETTL flash startles them and they're so fast to take off, by the time the shutter opens they're out of frame. Usually use manual flash to capture them, no preflash. Natural light shots should be fine.
