I managed to catpure these this afternoon after lunch. Seeing was a bit rough. I've also done a bit of a comparison between my old processing method and AviStack (now that I have a PC that can run Avistack almost at an acceptable speed).

1. Full disc Ha.
2. Prominences Ha.
3. AR11166 white (Avistack)
4. AR11164 white (Avistack)
5. AR11164 white (Registax)

That AVIStack image looks very impressive...I'll have to come to terms with it and give it a fair trial.

Must agree with Matt about the full disc shot always look foward to it.Also the 2nd white light shot you can see a bridge in one of the dark regions great resolution.It does seem that the stacking works better in Avistack what's your opinion?

Yeah, I'm coming to grips with it myself. In my previous trials I struggled to see a difference to be perfectly honest but this time its clear cut. Maybe I'm getting a little clue about how to work it ... It's still very slow compared to Registax, I processed 4 images through registax in the time it took to do 1 with Avistack on my new you beaut fast computer... and I have to transfer the whole 1GB avi over the wireless network which also isn't fast.



But, it looks like I might have to start doing that.

Here's a repro of the whole disc shot done in Avistack.

I don't think I've got a good grip on it yet... I think where the data is pretty good and relatively sharp, registax works best for me, but as soon as the data gets a bit soft I can do more with it in Avistack....

I dunno yet... Blink compare this one with the first disc shot and see what you think.

Hi Al - I have had a good look.

I reckon the detail is sharper in image 1 (Registax) but there seems to be some fine bumpy things in some of the frames not visible in image 6.

With smaller aperture scope like ours I have found there is a limit processing programmes can deliver - you have a great imaging / processing routine so keep with it!

Yes I see what you mean Matt. I still prefer No 1 though. I wish I understood more about how these programs determine frame quality. Avistack, as far as I can see, doesn't give me as much opportunity to select sharp frames. The stacked image from Avistack (before sharpening) was noticeably soft compared to what I got out of registax.

I could be totally wrong, but my impression is that Registax allows better selection of sharp detail but doesn't handle the variation in position due to seeing as well as Avistack, and Avistack handles the variation in position due to seeing quite well, but not the change in sharpness. Then again it might just be that I don't know how to drive Avistack...

Nice full frame Al.

just a small tip for the use of AVI Stack. When you get the image to the point of saving do that and then go prost process and sharpen. Then save the image again and then close it. Now in avi stack open that last saved image and click on process image. It will sharpen it again. You can do this as many times as you like for your own taste. Works well.
