Good that you will be back soon with the mirror Ron.
You should be happy with the resurfaced mirror, Isaac does a really first class job.
Hopefully clear skies now for you.
Thanks Ric
the only time I will be happy is when I have in my hands
Cheers
I Picked up the Mirror this morning and the baby is now back in it's cradle
Thanks everyone for your thoughts for a happy ending to this thread
Cheers
PS I couldn't get the mirror at the right angle and smile at the same time
Really great to read, but even better to see images of mirror "Back in your hot little hands"
So how long is that re silvering/treatment going to last? What factors make a mirror deteriorate? And approx how many years between treatment for dob owners to go through the torture you have just been through?
Sorry, for asking-I know nothing about dobs and jsut curious.
Any scope that has a mirror eg. newtonians and RC's, will experience light erosion. The photons, when they hit the mirror, dislodge the aluminium atoms. So eventually the mirror will need recoating.
Some people of course believe that it's due to environmental factors like exposure to weather eg dew, dust, the occasional frog dropping and just plain old age.

Thanks JJ for the above
Chris, other things that contribute are continuous cleaning, extreme changes of temperature, and the quality of the original coating and the amount of time spent out under the stars.
I have had this scope about Ten years , so if I look after it is should see me close to the end of my Observing life
Cheers
