I have always interpreted it this way -the Spanish dancer is characterised as a lady with a wide flowing dress (usually red, white and black) and the classic back and forth twirling movements when they throw the dress around with their hands results in the dress curving in distinct arms of cloth around the dancer in the centre in opposite directions.
Particularly seen from above it would look like a spiral galaxy
