a video timelapse from queensland astrofest 2010

I posted this in the Queensland astrofest thread but realised i should have given the video its own thread This is a test and i probably will redo it again. Sorry but its on youtube so the quality is out the door - actually its the very first thing i loaded on there. Sorry about the music - my original track i had on it was copyrighted so couldn't use it.

Taken over 5 nights - all night

EDIT FAster version here

Thanks Steve. i am not entirely happy with it and will redo it again from scratch, but i can say there are no repeating sequences - there is about 3000 odd images, some taken with the 400D and the majority with the 30D

wonderful work Dave.
I think I saw my set up there a couple of times.
Hope you don't mind, I've shared it with all my astro buddies on FB.

Nice work David, some really enjoyable footage there... is the jerkiness of some footage a thing to do with Youtube or the actual movie? Just a Q. by no means having a go at the footage...

A marathon effort.

Can you share what sort of exposures you were using? Did you take all of these images in RAW or as JPEGs? (I've been thinking through the logistics of such time-lapses and given the number of images and that it will be viewed on a video screen would mean lowish res JPEGs would be appropriate)

on a normal PC it works fine - so it must be the downloads from youtube - i created the video at 10 images per second

well stuffing about is taking longer but i used windows moviemaker live for windows 7. works ok. then used adobe media encoder to save the 700mb file for youtube.

I sent an original version of the file to [1ponders] a few weeks back so if it was jerky maybe he would have noticed it?

Why not speed it up to normal video speeds of 25fps or higher? 10fps is a little slow, but thats personal taste..

everything in raw plus jpeg - though i have done this is jpegs but left it open to reprocess and redo in raws. the astrotrac shots were 60 or 70 second shots at iso 1600 with a 10mm fisheye lens. may view is that if its high quality to start with it helps big time - allows for a bit of flexability. but if its too low res then you cant make it better 16 gig card and just go for it - i have 4 x 8 gig cards and a 16 gig card

Dave, I'll make sure I'm there next year with the Muscat to keep you awake. You slacked off on the amount of photons!

Job well done.
