Not to difficult Dave. I use CCDStack for my blending and mapping to RGB but you can use almost any of the software out there to do the same.

Briefly.
I load the Ha, OIII and a copy of the OIII.
I align all three images.
I create a colour composite using Ha image as red at factor of 1
I use the copy of the OIII as green at a factor of 0.7
I use the OIII as blue at a factor of 1
Hit the create button and hope. Sometimes I have to vary the factors a little depending on the original data then into photoshop for a fiddle.

This might give you some idea how simple it really is.

I finally got some time to have another look at this image.

This is just a synthetic lum channel and a little selective sharpening.

What do you think

Oh baby you just nailed that one Doug, lots more visible and more contrast.
Also a bit of green background is gone.

Looks great Doug it almost draws you in, some great fine details in the fire there too.

No the first one for me.... I know I'm going against the crowd but...

Its become too contrasty, you've lost some of he subtle tones within the nebula itself, I suspect you wanted to introduce some color into the core buts it's just a colored strip, that doesn't blend in. The original image was a beauty, and as per my earlier thread I felt if youncould change nothing other than introduce some nice star colors you would have a most printable image.
The original was one of the best tarantulas I have seen in a while.

Probably wont make any friends over that comment but there you go.

I just think the first one is a beauty but I'm not looking at it on a well
calibrated monitor and am no judge of this stuff anyway.

Thanks Marty, A bit of scull duggery to add a luminance layer to this one but I am very happy with the end result. Just stars to come.

Thanks Mike. I did quite a bit of work on both the Ha and OIII masters to lift the detail and get some colour in the OIII of the core and will probably do a bit more when I get some RGB stars to blend through the image.

No Problems Clive. I think there is still a lot of room for improvement but can't do much until I can get some more data on this one. Stars are still coming.

Thanks Steve. I an happy with both images but no2 just has the extra detail I was after.

Thanks Paul, I just added a good sharp lum layer to the first on to try and give it a lift. I was happy with the second one myself but will be happier once i can get some star colour back into the mix.
