No need to choose volunteers, just send criminals doing life if jail,eg, that moron who killed all those people at Port Arthur.
The Psychological impact on anyone on a mission like that knowing that you will never return I think would be impossible to deal with, especially once your in the craft and see our home planet just getting further and further away for ever.

Nah, not me, those helmets will give me a permanent bad hair day, and there's no shops on Mars for crying out loud. And where the heck would I plug my electric blanket, and I also need a cat to cuddle too, and... and.. .

Mr. Bin Laden could go and all those that are judgemental against others. That should populate Mars and make Earth a better place.

NASA needs to look at commercial opportunities to get this thing of the ground. Just think of the TV possibilities:

Man vs Mars
Survivor Mars
Martian Big Brother (not sure how they'll handle evictions lol)

I'm sure you guys could think of more. Just have to get over the technical difficulties of beeming the footage from Mars to Earth.

Trinny & Sussanah do Mars? How to get that space suit working for you
Master Chef Mars? Now there's a challenge. And my personal favorite, I want to see The Osbournes do Mars.

Yep, I would go. Recent event in my life (divorce) reinforce that desire.
Way? Because its there! Humans always wanted to know what is behind the next hill.
How? I prefer the toilet working the right way, so my preference is the Enterprise, or the Millenium Falcon.
Difficult? Well, hardware store wasn't available for Columbus either!
Apparently man is from Mars, so I prefer the rest of the crew are ladies!
Location? Martian Grand Canyon.
