Taken from Mountain View Road at Maleny. Spectacular. You can see the Glasshouse Mountains in the background, remnants of a volcano and the central plug.
My shot here doesn't really do it justice. I was just passing through on the way back from a building site inspection. Wasn't quite close enough to sunset else I would have hung around, spent more time there. Next time.
A very powerful composition and I think the B&W conversion really lends itself to the scene. Despite what looks like burn off, the transparency in the distance hasn’t suffered nearly as much as I would have thought, unless you had an anti-smoke/haze filter on the lens. LOL!
Thanks guys. I agree the tree is a little too centred. Would have only needed a couple more steps sideways and it'd be improved.
In the distance was that dark storm that hit Brisbane yesterday, was very dark blue, but the FG was this bright green in the afternoon sun. Just didn't look right in colour.
Here's another shot with the 17-40L. The first shot above was with the 85L.
Troy, you would not believe it mate I was just up there this afternoon to take a few pics, but the haze was pretty bad, however yours was a vey appealing image, well done indeed.
We, Alice and I are doing our trip as you probably have heard, and presently we are in the outskirts of Brisbane, near Belmont, and will be staying at least another week.
Ah ... Mary Cairncross Park ... love it .. that vista used to be the first thing I saw every morning for 6 or so months when I rented an old farm house up there .. oh .. near on 35years ago. Its breath taking isnt it. In the mornings at sunrise the floor is covered in fog and the peaks break thru .. you can imagine that effect. Thanks for the trip back.
Really like the work getting rid of the tree too !!!!
Dennis - only got CS4 I've used Liquid Rescale in GIMP before. Could try that I suppose. Good job on the tree removal and clouds there, though.
Leon - I live in Auchenflower. Right in the city between Milton and Toowong. Belmont is out to the east, isn't it. Old Cleveland Rd. How's the trip been so far? What've you seen around here, and what are you planning on seeing? PM me if you like.
Jeff - so jealous of people that get to wake up with that view. Magnificent.
Thanks Troy for your response, yep we are next to the old cleveland road, your spot on.
Troy, we are being very spoilt, and because we have family up here they have taken us on lovely trips into the spots we never new existed.
I would prefer to have had the tree a little more to the side (either side) but you may have been limited in your options.
Agreed - the tree is a bit distracting, but you take what you can get in photography. The lighting seems a bit harsh, but the B/W conversion is good and it looks OK to my old eyes.
I keep meaning to take a few days off work and get a hire car and go down there with my tripod...but the lack of ultra wides with the 1D Mark IIn is not good imho...
