Was listening to talk back radio and apparently some people are complaining that the race was not live with a delay of around 8-9 laps.
And yes bring back production races........

Yes, it was delayed. I heard the result on the radio and a while later went inside to find they were still on lap 156. I suppose they didn't want a little thing like the race to get in the way of advertising.

So, is it the badge or the paint job that makes all the difference, because there is bugger all else different. It is a very contrived category.

Its in the soul that it matters it is probably just the badge I have to be honest I cant tell the difference on the road either they seem to be copying shapes in the commercial market they all seem to look alike Holden, Mitsubishi Ford etc.

It isn't so much that the road cars are similar but that the race cars are clones and have nothing in common with the road cars. Actually they do have two things in common - both the back doors are off the road cars (but all other panels are custom made). AFAIK they both use the same floor-pan, same motor, gearbox, diff, axle, brakes etc etc.

This category was invented after the bogons on the mountain couldn't handle the race being won by a Nissan Skyline instead of one of their beloved V8 Fordens. The booing of Richards and Skaife was one of the darkest episodes in Australian sport.

In a lot of ways I agree with you, but you have to admit they have produced a marketable product and exported it to the world.

They played some footage during the broadcast of the V12 Jags going down Conrod Straight - the sound was just awesome. Second only to the noise of the BMW M3 singing at 9000RPM, before they rev-limited them to 7500 in line with the 5litre V8s...

Have a listen to this Jaguar and this BMW

DT

Being local I cannot really be bothered with the V8 race..... But I love the 12 hour production car race that is held around easter each year up on the mount. That is a race worth watching without the hype of the V8 race. Its very informal on the track, You can literally walk up to the the pits and talk to the drivers. As the cars are slightly modified production cars, they actually have interesting dynamics happening all the time rather than a train procession of a parity based formula.

What is really special about the 12 hour race is racing in the dark with the glowing and sparking brakes, its truly spectacular.

As for the V8's our policy is now to rent out the house and get outta town.

I do miss the production 24 hour race that they had for a while on the mount, there is no sound quite like a ferrari screaming up and down the mount, trying to outlast the porsches.
