Jupiter and Ganymede Oct 9

Seeing was much better than it has been - not as good as the jetstream predictions suggested, but worth persevering with. The Jupiter signal was quite good in R, but there was no fine detail in G and B, so the image is a bit soft and noisy, even for an 8 inch aperture. At some stage, will up the image scale to see if the optics can produce more detail - if the jetstream ever calms down.

However, Ganymede made up for any Jupiter limitations. A super-resolution stack using only red data shows convincing surface structure, something I have not been able to record before.

thanks for looking

Thanks Malcolm,

Yeah you could have "knocked me down wiv arf a brick" when the Ganymede image appeared - a) it is round! b) it has surface detail!

Pretty good image considering the conditions down south of late Ray!

Thanks John. Yes, using a smaller scope, everything needs to be just right to get passable images - and this year the jetstream has been pretty bad.
