Saturn July 21st, Jup July 22nd & 25th

Hi All,

My internet connection has been down since last Friday so I am behind with posting my data.

Have attached my final Saturn RGB for this apparition, I am conceding Saturn to the top of my neighbors Palm tree.

Also attached RGB's of Jupiter from July 22nd in reasonable seeing of the GRS, Oval BA and its wake with the shadow transit of Ganymede, also July 25th in variable seeing of virtually the same face of Jupiter. Of interest are the changes in the wake of Oval BA compared to the July 22nd image.

Thanks Bird but looking at your latest efforts I reckon you have taken planetary imaging to a whole new level, I am not often lost for words but when I saw your animation nothing that I could think of seemed adequate to describe it.

Thanks Ron, I also look forward to meeting you. It will be a long drive, just over 3700 km for the round trip. We hope to arrive Friday afternoon Aug 6th, my presentation is at 3pm Sat Aug 7th and we will be leaving on the return trip Tue Aug 10th.

Beautiful images yet again Trevor. We are a tad spoilt with yours and Anthony's images to view. I imaged Jupiter yesterday morning and thought it looked good and steady on the laptop screen, but could not reveal much detail in the processed images, they looked fuzzy. Fast seeing with turbulance in the mid layer, was the problem.

I see the rings are beginning to open up a bit on Saturn...

I may have missed this, but what has happened to the SEB where the GRS is? Did somone leave the clouds in the wash too long? Its now white?

Very strange.

Thanks Lester, yes, cannot do much about the jetstream, however there are more high pressure systems on the way and they do seem to be taking more conventional paths and not just dropping away to the south. With an ounce of luck the jetsteam will also be less of a problem.

Thanks Chris, yes Saturn should look a lot better toward the end of the year, the rings will start to quite noticeably open.

The faded SEB certainly provides Jupiter with a different look, the GRS looks very lonely. The SEB is expected to reform but no one can say when this will happen or what will trigger the process. Its a wait and see thing which is why it so important to image Jup at every opportunity to try and pickup on any changes that may be a prelude to the SEB reforming
