M16 Eagle Nebula

Took this image last night - 48x5mins (4 hrs) making this my longest integrated exposure yet. I finished up around 2am this morning.

QHY8 pro through the 10" Newt/Paracorr. Calibrarted with flats and bias but no darks. Quite a bit of JPEG compression to get it under the 200k limit.

Comments and advice welcome.

Tiredness is always well worth it when you have a good result like this to show from the hours

It looks nice and smooth but it needs to be displayed better, have you considered getting a Pbase account? Pbase is great image sharing site and the best of the several available in my opinion.

Thanks Mike, Barb, David and Trevor. I'll need to look into pbase a bit more. It was never a problem with the 0.5 megapixel DSI!

Really nice shot Peter. Worth the lack of sleep and it looks like you have all aspects nailed and the only variable will be the object imaged.

Nice shot!
Have you also considered using a Skydrive account? Up to 50meg per file and 25Gb of storage. You can have public and private folders as well, its like an online hard drive. Add a description, Title etc.

Technically great shot with great focus and guiding but the framing doesn't do it for me. I think M16 looks good way out in a wider field or up close in the pillars. This one is in between. Not close enough to see the interesting bits in the pillar but too close to see the cropped nebulosity wrapping around.

+1 for the skydrive account. Got one and it's very simple to use. No brainer. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Marc - I agree the smaller field around the pillars is more interesting although I was happy to pick up the loop in this image.

I haven't got around to cropping - just happy to be making some progress on the capturing and processing.

With a bit of co-operation between the two of us I added 30min of Ha data to Peter's really nice shot to give a close-up of this Messier object. Obviously we would like a whole lot more Ha data but the weather has not co-operated so far.
Any bad processing or mistakes are entirely mine. Peter you need that Ha filter before Astrofest.
Comments welcomed.
