I went outside to check at about 9.30pm, clear skies, but by the time I had the camera setup the clouds had rolled back in. Tried to shoot through some sucker holes. This shot was taken at about 2011 last night.
I used the bracketing function of the Nikon D300 and took 9 shots around the "optimal" exposure, then combined the central 5 of those to make a HDR shot. I was hoping to get some Earthshine as well, but this was not going to happen.
I have boosted the colour saturation in this shot to show that the normal colours of the full moon have been replaced by a pale copper colour, like a total lunar eclipse, only less intense. I presume the reason for the colouration is the same.
Nice Shot considering the weather! Yes it was tough through the clouds.
I had the camcorder out last night testing different levels of exposure, the clouds made it a lovely challenge. Ahh we Melbournites love the weather....pffft.
