Solstician Belt of Venus

OK, well, not precisely on Solstice, but, it'll do.

Captured a few minutes of the sun disappearing, the beautiful Belt of Venus over the horizon, heralds the onset of nightfall.

The long exposure has subdued large splashy waves, a few minutes before high tide.

Made somewhere along a lovely spot on the southern coast of NSW.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
3.2s f/16.0 at 17.0mm iso400

Higher resolution available here.

The majority of my images are available for sale as high resolution desktop wallpapers, as well as prints. If you're interested in anything, send me an email.

Comments, critique, etc., most welcome.

Another corker H, gives the illusion the foreground water is somewhat lower than the rest of the ocean.

Old Slarty Bardfast did a top job on the crazy paving too.

Now that's a landscape! Heaps to look at, in foreground and background; lovely and interesting sky, great composition and exposure. Don't think there's any boxes you didn't tick.

I think it's fantastic, a great foreground with sharp detail and a fantastic sky. Love those pastel colors.
Great work!

You are certainly living the dream mate. Magnificent.

I miss our outings mate. When are we going out into the wild again?

Amazing shot. Sky, water and stone sometimes form a spectacular combo.

Wonderful H,

The colours and the geometry of the rocks give this a very off-world effect.

Cheers

Justin,

Cheers! Yeah, that would be the lull between the waves causing that effect. You can see some of the spray on the left hand-side there. The slate is fascinating. I would love to have seen how that was created over time.

Alex,

Thank you, kind sir. I've got a few more I need to process.

Adam,

Cheers. I was hoping for fiery clouds, but, I'll also happily take the Belt of Venus.

Baz,

Getting there, slowly!

I'm hoping it snows up in the mountains, we could plan a camping trip up there if you like. I have a couple of guys at work and a mate who might be interested, too.

Jen,

That's a really gracious compliment. It's one of things that nature photographers strive for, I guess -- to show the inherent beauty around us that we often take for granted, or don't even look at, at all. I'm so happy that my images can convey or evoke that emotion.
