Repro of Eta Carina with RC8 and QHY8Pro

This was an image I took some time back using my 8" RC and QHY8Pro. I have reprocessed it using CCDStack for registration after splitting the OSC data into separate colours. I think the overall result is much better as a result of using this process and wonderful piece of software. I must also thank Adam Block for his wonderful tutorials on the use of CCDStack. 9Hrs of video tutorials which would have to be the most detailed and easy to watch tutorials I have ever watched. I have only watched a few hours of these so far but they do open up CCDStack to a new level.

Thanks Trevor, yes it is well worth buying but the tutorial is also a must.
Hard to get a comment here today! I didn't think it was that bad, perhaps I should bounce back to the beginners forum as I am a beginner at LRGB imaging.

Niceone Doug. I may have to look at CCDStack as an alturnative ro what I'm currently using. Do you prefer the Pro to the qhy8 and is there a reL difference in image using the same time of exposure etc?

LRGB just complicates a pretty picture. The OSC is a relatively simple process which is complicated quite a bit by splitting the colours and processing as LRGB although I think it may well be worth the effort.

G'Day Allan. The big benifit with the 8Pro is the regulated cooling and a better seal on the CCD chamber meaning less frost on the CCD. Otherwise the rest is all the same.

Are you finding the RC complements the Tak nicely?

Hi Rob, I suppose it is a complimentary scope when next to the Tak. It gives a reasonable focal length for galaxy images but is in no way comparable to the tak's quality. When you have to purchase a new focuser when new to allow reasonable images to be produced it really says it all.. but with a little work it is still quite good value for money. I would still place the VC200L a step ahead for imaging but again a compromise which needs some work to improve to a good imaging standard. Thanks for the kind comments.

I've been espousing the merits of CCDStack for ages, maybe people will listen to you! It's a great, though somewhat quirky program. I agree about the Block tutorials, excellent value for money, they should just sell them with the software and add a bit extra to the cost.

As for this image, I think you may have overdone the sharpening/deconvolution a bit. There are areas of detail that stick out quite noticeably, probably not what you wanted to do. It's nice to see the detail, but there is a balance between detail and overall image "naturalness".

Keep going through the 9 Hrs of video, it's better than anything on TV.

Thanks Stuart, I doubt any one will pay any attention to my thoughts on this program but it most certainly is a cut above the rest in dare I say every aspect. The tutorials should be a prerequisite because without them it is just another alsoran program. Adam is a genious with software, I can't tell everyone how good he really is.
I agree on the sharpening but this is what I decided was best due to high cloud at the time of capture and probably a little slack on the focus. I was really more interested in seeing how well the 3 colours aligned this time using CCDStack and was pleasantly surprised.
