Bright blue Regulus 1 degree close encounter with Mars

Bright blue Regulus is having a 1 degree close encounter with Mars

OK I managed to get his tonight with lots of high cloud and low coastal cloud. The “ session" didn’t last long as it fully clouded over, though it is clearing now i am processing this - oh well. Taken in the doghouse with the 127ED and the canon40D cooled and modded, 35sec x 37 shots ISO 1600 unguided (because of the cloud) (21min 35sec unguided - and it shows LOL)

Stacked in DSS and processed with pixinsight 1.6

I went out for a quick look at the sky a couple of nights ago as we all do and I said what are those two close together Regulus was above and Mars below but only about the width of Regulus below and I had to check Stellarium to confirm it was the two but they were very striking so close to each other.

Nice shot there, Dave

The Leo Dwarf is in there too, but you won't be able to get it with your setup unfortunately...too dim and spread out.

A very nice celestial portrait Dave! Sigh, it must be good to be able to just turn the power on, rotate the dome, open the slit and off you go!

Cheers

thanks Dennis. Oh the joy of having dinner - walking up the back, turning the mount and camera on, open the slits, rotate the dome, slew to the rough area of the target, frame, focus with liveview, the set and walk away for a while (not long as there were rain clouds about). I find it a difficult thing to grasp now
