Saturn + Enceladus transit, 10th May

Many thanks to both Paul and Marc for pointing out that I had also captured Enceladus in transit against Saturn, visible only because it is passing in front of the ring shadow on the planet. Seeing Enceladus in transit is moderately rare as it's normally not visible against saturns illuminated disc.

Here's the latest image that shows Enceladus, it's just about to pass out of the ring shadow and be lost against the brighter cloud tops. Note that there is some colour mis-registration because it moves very fast, but it is still quite visible, especially the green component.

I've added an inset with the colours aligned on Enceladus to make is a little easier to spot.

The SED storm is also still visible in this image, slowly rotating toward the eastern limb.

cheers, Bird

Lovely image and it was very obvious on the animation to me. It is that bright screen I have. You are having a wonderful run with the seeing, leaving the rest of us for dead.

Congrats on the great work you have been putting out of late Bird, just returned to B. Hill from my Bowling trip & the SPSP and had a brief look through the back log of my emails, certainly some stunning images there Bird.

Love this Saturn and the methane filter sure provides a different perspective of Jupiter. Nice to see you getting some good seeing for more experimentation with the Flea.

Regards
Trevor
