Jupiter, morning of April 19th

Hi All,

Set out to capture my first Jupiter images for this apparition this morning. Was up at 4:30 am CST and started imaging at 5:13 am CST with Jupiter at an alt of 19 degrees. The whole session was effected to varying degrees by high alt Cirrus. My final capture was at 5:23 am CST as the cloud more or less obscured Jupiter from view.

I have rated the seeing at 4/10 but if the cloud had cleared it would have been quite good, the image was mostly quite steady but the cloud wafting through played havoc with the signal on my histogram.

Captured 3 sets of RGB's, have attached the best which has Europa in transit with Io out to the East. Have also attached an animation of the 3 RGB's.

Looking forward to some good seeing over the next few days.

Thanks for Looking.
Regards
Trevor

Nice image Trevor. Can't wait for to see what is produced under really good seeing conditions.
Cheers,
Duncan

Thanks Mike, sure is a different look for Jup with the SEB faded so much.

Thanks Bird, was hopping to image Saturn tonight and Jup again in the morning. GFS jetstream data looks good and the satellite image looks fair but there is 10/10 cloud at the moment.

Thanks Lester, considering the conditions, I thought they came up ok.

Thanks Duncan, yes, good seeing is great, with really good seeing the effect the Peltier cooler has on the overall result is really quite dramatic.

Hi Trev looking at your animation it seems as the early morn went on the seeing was becoming more stable.
Cheers Kev.

That exactly right Kev, the frustrating thing was that the image was becoming ever more stable but that coincided with the increasing density of the cloud.

A bit soft (as to be expected at such low elevation) but great colour and detail. Fantastic start to your Jupiter season.
