Comet P/2010 H2

Comet P/2010 H2 is a really interesting object discovered on April 16.

At discovery it appeared as a starlike object of mag 12-13, and no cometary appearance could be percieved, even in large telescopes. However, the chance of new asteroid of that brightness having gone previously undiscovered was virtually nill. Furthermore the previous day images were uncovered showing the field down to mag 21, with no object apparent in the predicted position! Therefore a cometary outburst was suspected and in recent hours the object has started to show a slightly non-stellar aspect. It looks very much like a Comet Holmes outburst but on a smaller scale.

Positions are provided at this link:

I don't have an AN, but from the available doco that says it uses the same format as TheSky, I think this is right. It is based on the latest data from Horizons. Paste it on the end of your comets file. The field order, mostly using the Horizons names, is:

ID Epch TP DAN EC W OM IN M1 K1 MPEC#

P/2010 H2 |2000|20100518.8775 | 4.45064 |0.206909 |143.8983 | 64.5690 | 14.1093 | 9.8 |10.0 | MPEC 2010-H12
