NGC 2516 - just a quickie.

Hello all,
Just a quickie NGC 2516 image to get me back in the imaging swing - setting the LED display on my Synscan controller tells me I've not had the scope out for over a month! Tut tut!!

Canon 40D (modded)
Canon 300mm f4L IS lens @f5.6
9x10min subs, iso 1600, ICNR on
HEQ5 mount

Images Plus and PS for all the fiddling.

Does anyone know what the object is around the bright orange/red star at the extreme right of my image?

Higher Res version here...

Cheers
Doug

Hi Doug,

a quick play in Cartes got me the ID for the star you describe.
TYC 8565-02285

Entered into Aladin skyserver gets you this:

IC2220?

Butterfly nebula?

kinetic (Steve) is right.
It is the reflection nebula IC 2220 that surrounds the variable star V341 Carinae (or HD 65750), a red giant.
