DSLR Focus/U there Chris?

HI all,

I see that a few people are using DSLR Focus and thought you could help me.
I've been trying to get a hold of Chris Venter thru the website email for about a month with no success.

Is he still around? Has anyone contacted him lately? I've got a problem with my version of DSLR focus saying that the wrong key is enterred everytime I try and register it.

I've been using DSLR focus for a while and really like it but have had to load it onto a new computer whenthe old one died but am having no luck with the key.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
Mike

This is the norm now. He ignores everyone and obviously has no interest in his product. I paid him and then found the product wouldn't work on my 40D. Wait 2 months for the new version he told me, nearly 2 years ago.

What a bummer. All I need is the original email I used to register the product and I would be up and running.

Any other DSLR control for a Canon 10D out there?

Cheers
Mike

thanks for that, I totally forgot about the driver. The software in now detecting the camera when I connect the usb cable but I cannot shoot more than 30 secs. I have the original serial cable for long exposure connected but camera is not being detected if I connect that cable only, which makes sense.

cant figure out how to do long exposures!!!

Says on the APT info page that any serial cable can be used for long exposure. I got it working with DSLR Astropix that comes with meade's autostar suite but I would like to be able to change iso settings without having to touch the camera.

I'll keep plugging away, thanks for your help houghy. Hopefully Chris reads this and gets a hold of me.

Cheers

Hello Mike,

I'm the guy that is guilty for this tool . I'm reading a lot in this forum but had no registration so far. Today I saw this thread and decided to register and to try to help with APT.

I had not chance to test the program with 10D myself, so can't guarantee that it will works correctly with your camera. Can you try to connect the USB and serial cable at same time? Then select from "Long Exp. Control" list the COM port that is connected to your serial cable (BTW take a look on the "Camera Preparation" steps in the User's guide). With all these steps it is expected APT to allow to command the camera like setting the ISO and to make exposures longer than 30s.

Regards,
Ivo

welcome Yoddha,
you have a very interesting application, though i have not tested it yet. I have downloaded it and will try it out (when we get some clear weather).

I little bit off topic - do you think it will work with a pentax K10D?

Hello David,

Thank you for the kind words!

So far there is no support for other than EOS models but I plan in the near future to add possibility to work only with serial cable or DSUSB, this will give a kind of limited control over other cameras.

Hi Ivo,
Thanks for APT. I have recently purchased the latest Canon 550D EOS Rebel T2i. At present the software doesn't connect. Is an update under development?

Hi Ivo,

I tried connecting both cables but cant get the long exposures to work. up to 30 seconds with the usb works fine tho. I've tried to connect the serial cable thru a serial port as well as a usb-to-serial converter that I know works but still no luck.

I do like the software and would love to get it working with my old trusty 10D.

Cheers
Mike

Hi Peter,

Which version you use? v1.0.6 is intended to work with 550D. I didn't tried it myself, but tested with friend's 500D and there are no problems. I suppose that EOS utility works fine on the same PC?

Hi Mike,

I'll be happy to help! Can you describe me when it is stopping to work? During the execution of a plan? If yes when exactly? Please check if mirror locking is ON, if yes then you have to use anti-vibration pause longer than 0s.

Apt

Hi Ivo,
Version is 1.0.6.
The software shows "Camera connected - Canon 550D"
"Liveview is not supported from this camera".
Any suggestions?
Peter

Hi Peter,

The problem looks like APT can't recognize correctly your camera. Can you write down exactly what is written after "Camera connected". This string is used to determine the camera model and it usually is different on the different markets. Naming is different in US, EU, Japan and etc. I'll tune the code and if you want, give me a mail address as a Private Message. I'll send you a new version to try.

Hi Ivo,
Information from log is;

"550D, sensor size as mm 22.3 x 14.9, crop factor 1.6, max resolution 5184 pixels.
Enter focal length, to compute FOV, Resolving and Magnification."

I have sent you a private email also.
Thanks

Hi Peter,

It was very busy day and I didn't have time to prepare the version, but hope that will make it during the weekend.
