Aliens. or the government. you choose which is appropriate for your level of paranoia. me? Aliens...
Coincidently enough I live in the Hills area of Sydney and I get absolutely no reception. I am unfamiliar with what type of antenna ye ol land lady uses but it doesnt work. that goes for both analog and digital signals. i may as well shove the receiver in my left nostril...

But then again, it may be you have industrial interference in the path of the signal.. it is very hard to give any advice in this case...
Thanks bojan, been a while, but I think I'll go knock up the attenuator and see what happens, Might try 3db first though as the problem is intermittant rather than continual. Will get back to the thread and report.

We're on the west side of the Old Northern Rd ridge and not far from the showground. Despite having a mast on the roof we still don't get much UHF from the Sydney towers. Strangely TVS works. We get our UHF from the Illawarra like Alexander does.

Mum lives a bit closer to Old Northern Rd, still on the west side, and she manages to get Sydney UHF, but does have a taller mast.

Sorry bout the delay in answering.
Bojan the attenuator did not fix the problem.
snipping a bit off the wall socket end of the coax and re connecting to the wall socket did the trick.

More likely a dodgy connection. Have had problems with coax connections a little bit of corrosion can cause the connection to act as a diode rectifying all kinds of signals.

Yes...the thing that threw me completely was the good reception on some channels and the poor to zero reception on others. I expected reception to be more or less uniform.........I'll write this one up in my little red book.
thanks again guys for your support and help
