Another Sunspot

Hey all,

Here is my latest shot, this time featuring AR 1054 (I think) not as great a shot as I have seen on here, but I think I am approaching the full capability of my tiny little Coronado PST....... or my ability, one of the two.......

I used a DBK 31 webcam combined with a Coronado PST.
And played around with it in CS3 to try and extract the most data I could.

I would like to capture the entire Sun disk, but all attempts to do so, to date have been thwarted.

Comments and Suggestions as always will be greatly appreciated

Cheers,

Trent and Julie

Nice work T&J. The image size is quite small though - the DBK31 is 1024x768 isn't it?

Did you resize it?

Sounds like you'll have to do a mosaic to get the full disc?

Thanks Mike,

The image is a victim of a huge crop, only because every other time I have posted on ice in space I have made the image way too large, I guess I was a bit overzealous on my image resizing this time.

As for the full sundisk, my attempts so far have involved focal reduces etc to try and fit it in, I have success fitting a full Sundisk in with a 2.5x Powermate and an EOS Camera, however I lose out on the finer details.

So it seems mosaic may be the only way to go.

Hi Trent & Julie

You are getting lots of detail in your PST images - I think only the seeing and processing images from good seeing will get anything better!
Imaging is like golf - you should only want to beat yourself!

When are you getting a bigger solarscope?

Thanks Matt,

A bigger scope ? Thats the $12,999 question........
I guess I will buy one when I decide its time that I no longer like investments nor sensible purchases,

Its on the wish list,

Trent

Well done Folks look at the detail! Sunspots, flares, filaments.

Some tips
focus focus focus and oh yeah focus. Take your time.
I find avistack gives much better results than registax - even though it takes much longer.
dont crop as we say in Ireland " gives us the whole 9 yards!!"
Good tip for full discs - use your EOS then your DMK for spots/proms etc and stick the hires bits onto the full disk image
When youre ready to go big consider modding your PST. My images are taken with my modded PST and it cost 400EUR for the front filter and about another 200Euro for other bits n pieces and I now have the equivalent of a 90mm HAlpha scope!!
For more info PM me.
