Painted Rose (RGB added to QHY9 Ha shots)

Tuesday night we actually saw the STARS in Brisbane briefly - faint flickering points of light in the night sky for those that have forgotten.

Now knowing enough about the QHY9 and filterwheel to be plain dangerous, I set out to capture some RGB frames on the Rosette and some more Eta C data. After a couple of hours of clear sky, I ducked inside momentarily for a drink, only to return to the usual orange grey overcast.

I've quickly learned there's more to HaRGB than meets the eye. Here's a hybrid of the 2 techniques outlined here, along with original Ha shot. Bit of a gradient me thinks, but happy to have some colour before the Rosette disappears for the year.

HaRGB 60:15:15:15 (All 5 mins subs, RGB binned 2x2)
QHY9 + QHY FW/filters + MPCC/IDAS LPS on 8 inch Newt

Nice and tight, almost looks like a vortex with this perspective. The colour has come up a treat too.

Very nice Rob, the Ha lum looks like it could be put to better use though, the resulting HaRGB image seems very dim in comparison to the Ha Lum...

The Ha detail is awesome...

I swear, you must have a sixth sense for clear skies mate.. It cant have been clear for more than an hour or two... And yet somehow, you were able to take advantage of it!

Top shot Rob. Not to keen on the blend. Bit blurry but I absolutely love the Ha frame. Sharp as.

Thanks Keith - It does give a bit of a different perspective to the usual refractor widefield - not that I have much choice with the Newt!

Cheers Alex. I do seem to spend a lot of time looking at forecasts and out the window of late. Agreed I've got plenty to learn about HaRGB. Was aware it was no walk in the park. The RGBs were surprisingly difficult to bring up nicely, but I guess its a faint one taken from the city through a pollution filter with little data. Some data better than none though I figured.

Agreed Marc, is blurry compared to Ha and after Gaussian blurring etc to hide noise in RGB. You should have seen the first few versions though - I now know all about the dreaded "salmon pink" nebula colour first hand

The Ha looks great Rob ... very crisp and clear detail ... as can happen with blending RGB data, it has decreased the detail somewhat in the second image ... stick with the Ha only I reckon !

Thanks Steve. I'm a Ha newbie (one of the reasons I went to the CCD), but very impressed with what its shown up so far. I think I could easily be lured by B&W if you see more detail.

I'd hoped to get more data, but the weather probably won't allow it this year. At least I got some colour in there in the end!
