I just ordered my 12" dob

Yeeee haaaaa , tax cheque is back and I just placed my order with Andrews for a GS-980 Deluxe with all the goodies. Timing will be just right for first light and Mars at it's best.

I'm excited.. . . . . . . . . Geeez, maybe I am a geek?

well done mate, what eyepieces are you getting or have got??

mars is getting great. i have been using my 12.5mm series 500 on my andrews 10" and you can see detail already, let alone my 6.5mm.

This is around 1250 focal length divide 12mm for eyepiece = 100x, for yours at 1500 focal length = 125 x magnification.

Orion is great at the moment, saturn is gettting earlier and earlier.

Yes you have picked the best time to buy it!!!!!

Yup you are a geek?

But who gives a fat rats clacker what people think, Welcome to the dob "geeks" club.

yay

I already have a full compliment of Meade 1.25" Plossls for my ETX90, it is coming with 4 more GSO 1.25" Plossls but I suspect they wont be as good as the Meades I already own, it comes with a GSO 2" 26mm as well, I used Jenettes a few weeks back and it wasnt a bad EP given the aperture.
It is also coming with 4 gso colour filters (I already own a bunch but maybe I will get one I dont already have) a right angle 8X50 finder, fan, crayford etc, and they throw in a set of cheapy binocs for my daughter.
I dont own a Nagler yet, little steps I'm afraid. A couple of TV Panoptics would be nice now, well there's always next years tax return.

Hmmmmm now to goto motorise this gadget.

denis,

would be interested in your comparison of meades and gs??

After star camp, mick pinner should have some pretty good data re motorizing the wedge on the buggies for different sized dobs. 8,10,12,16

It would be great to get a dob, chuck it on a wedge on a buggy and ra / dec motorize it for $500 thru a laptop. fingers crossed. Hand controllers may be more, but who knows???

Hi Ron,

29th ehhhh? I'll be there with the 12", they told me to expect it delivered by Monday so that works for me, except Pauls right, I just bought us all a month of rain, hope your tanks are filling, eh Paul, I purchased around full moon so the rain would rack off by dark skies.....well it's a theory anyway. Camera is a no go so far, plan to do more on it though and will have a final answer for you by 29th. See ya then.

The G11 I could go for, the Gemini you can keep, and Paul, johns face would be priceless, turn up one day and the C11 is on the floor, the peer sitting there with 4 stainless bolts sticking up, Gemini dangling on the end of it's leash and no mount. combined with the ETX90 OTA it would qualify for a guider scope for sure, and have some horsepower left over for a camera or two. We could tell John it was yet another lightening strike?

Unfortunately I can't make it on the 29th. I've gotta do that Crystal Waters thing Ron...Shhhhhh.....but I'd love to come out the following weekend on the 5th. It'll only be about a 3 day old moon then.
