First Ha shot with QHY-9 - dang cloud! Grr.

Well, I was trundling along quite nicely shooting some Ha in the B33 region, when after 30 mins the cloud rolled back in.

Anyway - here's the perennial fave after 30 mins-worth.

QHY-9, Sky-90 and 7nm Baader Ha, MaximDL to capture and stack 6x 5 min subs.

Yes, I'm waiting for the flattener - and will be for a while... (darn it).

No where near Marc's effort from last night though...

Thanks very much David! It's early days, but I reckon that it's going to be a ripper!

Thanks Fred. It's all good fun and experience BTW - a typo. I meant 6x 5 min subs. I've corrected.

I've set up guiding fairly well tonight, and I was going to go for at least 10-min subs to see what happens... but the cloud sorta rolled in. I'll give it a little while and see what happens. I'm half way to Canberra you know... not on the North Shore... You guys have weather gods up there who listen!

Chris, Ha needs long exposure to get the best results (except if you are using a F1.8 hyper thingy, then 2 sec is over exposed ). Get a half dozen 20 min subs and stack them, makes a huge difference. Not too shabby for 6 min jobs, you have a lot to look forward to no doubt.

20min subs all the way in Ha Chris!! Good going in any case but with the KAF8300, as any sensor below 80% QE, exposure is king!! You, just like myself, have been spoiled by high QE cameras in the past, where 5min Ha subs are enough!

That's a top shot for such little exposure time. Certainly delivering the goods. Don't be shy in pushing the data in your processing as there is far more in this shot than meet the eye.

Thanks Mark, Alex and Marc

Yep - more processing to do Marc. I managed a few minutes-worth before climbing into bed last night. Will see what happens with it today. It was disappearing into the western horizon when I finished with it. I was just getting to the 1200 sec exposures when both the sky and my eyelids went. LOL!

I've left the mount set up outside overnight, so I hope that it's OK for tonight to get more time on it - doesn't look promising though.
