Mega Filament

Hi all
I read on spaceweather this afternoon that there is a filament on the Sun that is over 1,000,000 kilometers long! A filament is a mass of gas suspended over the chromosphere by magnetic fields and seen as dark ribbons threaded over the solar disk - Hydrogen Alpha scopes see these very well.
I rushed home to take a look - 1,000,000 km - that is something.
I managed only a few rushed AVI's and this was the best - the filament has now broken up a little but was still an impressive sight - the largest I have seen.

Thanks for looking!

I wouldn't mind seeing what one of those "Hyder Flares" would be capable of, imagine the Auroras!

Thanks for sharing

Thanks for making the effort Matt,

When stuff like this happens it really is quite exciting and the rest of rely on our solar imagers to catch it.

Well done.
Regards
Trevor

Lovely capture Matt especially the details inside the fil. This ended in a nice prom too, have a go at blending one to the other. If you have paint shop pro or Photoshop you wont have a problem.

Thanks all.
David, I have not done any blending as I do not have either paintshop pro or ps.
Which is better? My Birthday is just around the corner and I will be showered with gifts soon - may as well put in an order!

Matt you get much more for your buck with PSP. It has all you need for blending discs and proms. there is a freeware program called the Gimp which I believe is great but I have no experience of it.
