New additions

Hi All

Heres a couple of new Tuckians that saw their first fresh air sometime between 10.30 last night and about 6.30 this morning.

I have lost 2 ducks so far because they go away to sit on eggs when they are clucky and the foxes eventually sniff them out and thats the last you see of them. They wont keep sittin on the eggs once they know youve spotted them so all attempts to relocate or put a safety enclosure around them have been fruitless. So I had to take another tak with this so I bought an incubator and decided to sit on them myself This also means because the chances are very slim that one of the ducks will take a surrogate role after they hatch then I am also the mum for the first 8 or so weeks as well.

So 28 days ago I put 3 eggs into the incubator and 2 have hatched, which I more or less knew was going to happen about a week ago when I candled the eggs and only found 2 that the air sac was noticeably larger.

Anyway, as with most things that you do and have success with ( in this case 66.6%) you get a little excited and so I thought I'de share it around.

Congrats on a job well done Jeff, they sure are cute.

My wife is a collector of birds and has over 25. She raises them so I'm fortunate to see them through the breeding, laying, hatching and raising. her collection consists of 2 Amazon Parrots, a Galah, a Blue-headed Pionus and many Conures. These birds are indoors so we don't have the challenges with predators that you do but it's not easy when the hand feeding starts, as you now know.

Hi Steve ... I agree, there is something very unique and rewarding about seeing little ones thru to become self sufficient. I marvel at instinct and how these ...lings know about stuff the instant they are born.
