I know that this is a shocking pic compared to just about everything out there but I thought that I would post it because of a few peoples disapointments in what they can see visually in some of the other threads.
This was pretty much exactly what I could see visually on the 1st Feb. at about 21:35 WST. Just a hint of polar cap and some other features (bairly but there). So I'm happy.
Details are: Canon IXUS 870 IS digital compact hand held with flash through 10mm plossl eyepiece with 4X optical zoom. Minor cropping.
At least your honest about the quality
But if we all had to take images of Mars one frame per pic they would mostly look like this unless the conditions were great and we had a bit of luck on our side.
This is a tough way to take images of the planets (moon excepted)
I suppose I should poke fun at using the flash, but interestingly enough I found that it improved the exposure when I employed it on some early Afocal camera shots
